IN BRIEF
BUSINESS WINS
CACIB FINALISES A €530M FINANCING PACKAGE FOR BELGRADE’S FIRST METRO LINE, BUILT BY ALSTOM
The package, provided to the Republic of Serbia’s Ministry of Finance and insured by Bpifrance Assurance Export (BPIAE), will finance the delivery of Serbia’s first fully automated metro system – a project aimed at transforming urban mobility in Belgrade at the same time as significantly reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality. This deal consolidates CACIB’s longstanding partnership with Alstom and highlights the bank’s expertise in structuring complex export credit transactions and its commitment to financing infrastructure that offers sustainable environmental and social benefits.

ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE
China – Hormuz: fuelling China’s desire for autonomy
China has released its Q1 growth figures, sending a clear message to the rest of the world: the Iran crisis has thus far had no impact on Chinese economic activity.
Year-on-year growth came in at 5% in Q1, up from 4.5% in the final quarter of 2025. These figures beat consensus expectations, which saw growth remaining below 5%, and enabled China to make progress towards its 2026 growth target (“between 4.5% and 5%”).
